Give the sender a useful starting point
For a product enquiry, ask the visitor to add the item reference and their question rather than embedding personal account details. After scanning, check the draft in a configured mail app: recipient, subject and body are separate fields, and a correct image can still meet an unsupported mail handler.
An email address printed publicly can be harvested whether it appears as text or inside a QR code. Use an appropriate public inbox and provide a web-contact alternative when visitors may not have a mail app configured. No draft or scan establishes delivery.
Set up a useful draft
- Enter one recipient address, without the mailto prefix. This form does not provide CC, BCC, or attachment fields.
- Add a concise subject such as Product enquiry so incoming messages are easier to recognise.
- Use the optional message as a starting prompt, not a completed request on the visitor’s behalf. A short question is usually easier to review.
- Wait for Payload verified, then scan the exported image and inspect the recipient, subject, and line breaks in a real email app.
Example: a product information request
For a printed catalogue, you could use hello@example.com as the recipient, Product information as the subject, and a message asking the visitor to add the item number. These are illustrative details, not a working eToolPlus contact address. Replace them with an inbox you manage.
The generator creates a mailto link and encodes characters such as ampersands, question marks, accented letters, and message line breaks. You do not need to construct that link yourself. Avoid sensitive account details in a prefilled message displayed on public materials.
What scanning does—and what it does not do
A compatible device can hand the mailto link to an email application. The scanner or operating system may ask the user to choose an app. Scanning does not send a message automatically, create a mailing-list subscription, or attach a file. The user remains responsible for reviewing and sending the draft.
An email QR code also does not check whether the recipient inbox exists. If no draft opens, confirm that the phone has a usable email app and an account configured, then try a different reader. The image check verifies the encoded payload rather than email delivery.
Keep printed enquiries maintainable
A changed inbox or subject requires a new static code. For a changing support workflow, a website code linking to a contact page may be easier to maintain. For saving a person’s email alongside their other details, use the vCard tool; for a call, use the phone tool.
Download SVG for a scalable design asset or use Print assistant to size a PNG. Test the final layout before distributing a large batch of catalogue inserts.
Questions about this tool
Can I leave the subject and message blank?
Yes. The address is required; both draft fields are optional. A shorter payload can also make the code less dense.
Will a multiline message look the same in every app?
The payload encodes line breaks, but app presentation can differ. Check the apps your audience is likely to use.
Can I tell who scanned or sent a message?
The generator does not provide scan analytics. An email received in your inbox is separate from a QR scan and is handled by your email service.
