Test the full contact route
For a reception sign, print the opening hours and a readable telephone number beside the code. Check the international number and whether the line reaches the intended team. A correctly decoded tel link does not establish staffing, opening hours or calling charges.
Ask a permitted tester to review the displayed target before choosing to call. Desktop calling software and mobile diallers can present different prompts. If an extension is required, place the instructions outside the code because this form does not encode extension or pause sequences.
Enter a number visitors can dial
- Use a direct telephone number. Include an international country code if people may call from outside your country.
- Spaces, parentheses, hyphens, and dots used for formatting are removed from the encoded number. Do not enter the tel prefix.
- This form does not support an extension, a pause sequence, or multiple recipients. Add extension instructions separately in your sign wording if needed.
- Scan the exported code, check the number displayed by the device, and test the call with appropriate permission before printing in quantity.
A worked scan-to-call example
A sample entry of +44 7700 900123 becomes tel:+447700900123. The number is an illustration, not eToolPlus’s support line. Replace it with the number you want callers to reach and check its country code rather than copying the example.
The form validates a supported number format. It does not look up telephone ownership, confirm that a line is active, or estimate the cost of calling it. Charges and availability depend on the number and the caller’s provider.
Dialler behaviour varies by device
Many smartphones offer to open a dialler or a call prompt when they read a tel link. A desktop computer without a calling application may display the link instead. Payload verified confirms that the image contains the expected number; it cannot place a test call or guarantee how a particular scanner handles the link.
Keep the telephone number visible as ordinary text beside the QR code when practical. That gives visitors another way to call if the camera cannot read the code. Avoid describing the QR image as an emergency-service replacement or a guaranteed connection.
Choose a call, message, or contact card
Use SMS when you want a text draft, WhatsApp for a chat link, or vCard when the number should be saved with a name and email. A phone code simply carries the call target.
For a door notice, Printable signs lets you add a clear title and instructions. Select an appropriate printed width, preserve the recommended clear border, and scan the actual notice from its intended viewing position.
Questions about this tool
Does scanning immediately call the number?
The scanner and phone decide how to present the tel link. Usually the user sees a dialler or prompt and chooses to call; verify the behaviour on the devices you expect visitors to use.
Can I change the number after printing?
No. Regenerate the static code when the target number changes and remove old notices.
Does the code need internet access?
Reading the stored number does not itself fetch a webpage. Completing a call still requires a suitable device and available telephone or calling service.
